- Trans Alpha-Thalassemia (-α/-α): You have one functional gene on each chromosome. You will always pass exactly one functional alpha-globin gene to your child. Even if your partner has the cis trait, your baby cannot inherit a complete lack of alpha-globin genes, thus avoiding the risk of Hemoglobin Bart’s hydrops fetalis [11][12].
