What Inciteful Med Won't Do
What this tool isn't, in one place.
Inciteful Med is a research assistant. It's powerful at finding, summarizing, and citing medical literature. But there are deliberate things it won't do - partly because it shouldn't, and partly because it can't do them well.
We won't diagnose you
Inciteful Med won't tell you what condition you have, even if your symptoms or records strongly suggest a particular diagnosis. Diagnosis requires a clinician examining you, integrating your full history, and taking responsibility for the call.
We won't prescribe or recommend a specific treatment
Reports may compare treatment options and explain the evidence base. They will not say "you should take X at Y dose." That's a decision for you and your prescriber.
We won't replace your doctor
Inciteful Med is built to make conversations with your doctor better, not to be your doctor. If you're considering not seeing a clinician because you used Inciteful Med, that's the wrong way to use it.
We won't contact your providers
We don't message, fax, or call your doctors, hospitals, or insurance. You decide what to share and how - see Sharing a report and Saving a report as PDF.
We won't enroll you in a clinical trial
When clinical trials show up in a report, those are pointers - see Clinical trials in your research. Reaching out to enroll is between you, your doctor, and the trial coordinator. You can find the trial coordinator linked on clinicaltrials.gov.
We won't handle emergencies
If you're in crisis or facing an urgent medical situation, see In an emergency. Inciteful Med is asynchronous research - seconds per question - and isn't built to be your first line in an emergency.
We won't write prescriptions, refer you, or sign forms
We don't have any clinical authority. We can help you prepare for a visit where your clinician does those things.
We won't give you mental-health crisis support
We can summarize the evidence base on conditions and treatments. We're not a crisis line. See Mental health questions.
We won't share or sell your data
Period. See Is it safe to share my medical records?.
What it will do
- Find relevant peer-reviewed research and current guidelines
- Summarize them in plain language
- Cite every claim so you can check the source
- Personalize answers using records you've added
- Help you prepare questions for clinical visits
- Surface relevant clinical trials when applicable
- Connect you with researchers and institutions studying your condition
- Help you learn how to self-advocate for better care
That's the line. Anything beyond it is for your care team.
